An adventure that blends ancient history, fascinating geology, and breathtaking landscapes. The Caves of Alghero, located on the Capo Caccia promontory within the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park, open a window onto an extraordinary underground world.

From the majestic stalactites and stalagmites of the Neptune's Cave to the emerald light of the Green Cave, and the mysterious underwater caves beloved by divers, this territory preserves some of Sardinia’s most precious natural treasures.

Neptune’s Cave: a masterpiece of nature

Have you ever wanted to step inside an underground cathedral carved by time? The Neptune’s Cave is one of the most famous attractions of the Coral Riviera and can be reached in two ways:

  • By sea: with tourist boats departing from the port of Alghero (about one hour, guided tour included).
  • By land: through the spectacular Escala del Cabirol, more than 650 steps carved into the limestone of Capo Caccia.

Inside, you’ll be amazed by underground lakes and impressive limestone formations. We recommend comfortable shoes and water, as the path can be demanding.

The Green Cave: emerald reflections on Alghero’s sea

The Green Cave, located along the coast of Alghero, owes its name to the light that filters through its waters, creating stunning green reflections.

  • Rock walls inhabited by colonies of seagulls and other Mediterranean species.
  • Crystal-clear waters rich in marine life.
  • Regulated access (from May to October, groups of max 30 people).

Exploring the Green Cave is a unique experience that combines nature, adventure, and silence.

The underwater caves of Capo Caccia

Diving enthusiasts will find in Alghero one of the Mediterranean’s most famous dive sites: the underwater caves of Capo Caccia. Between underground pools, submerged canyons, and calcareous formations, divers explore a hidden and fascinating world.

The light filtering through natural openings creates spectacular plays of reflections and shadows, turning the dive into an unforgettable adventure.

How to reach Capo Caccia and the caves

Recommended starting point: the free car park at Mugoni Beach (SP55).

From there, a shuttle service operates daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, with departures every hour.

  • Ticket: €5 round trip (free for children 0-3).
  • Stops: Baia di Conte, Le Prigionette/Villa Romana, Casa Gioiosa/Tramariglio, Cala Dragunara, Foradada Viewpoint, Piazzale di Capo Caccia.
  • By car: transit allowed, but no parking on the last stretch of the SP55.

Using the shuttle is the most convenient, safe, and eco-friendly choice: it reduces traffic, respects the environment, and avoids fines for unauthorized parking.
