After an important conservation and enhancement project, this natural wonder is now open to visitors, revealing all its extraordinary beauty.
A 200-million-year-old cave
This karstic cave was formed in limestone rocks dating back an astonishing 200 million years. Its walls feature stalactites and stalagmites up to 12 meters high, covered with natural deposits.
At the bottom of the cave lies a small brackish water lake, which reflects a soft light, creating a fascinating green glow.
This water now covers areas that were once dry and inhabited by prehistoric humans, as proven by the ancient engravings found inside.
Restoration and improved accessibility
The external 126-step concrete staircase has been fully restored and now features a non-slip surface and handrails. The old wooden fencing along the pedestrian path parallel to the provincial road has also been replaced.
These upgrades have made the site safer and more accessible, enhanced by energy-efficient LED lighting.
Inside the cave, a 270-meter walkway made of stainless steel has been installed, with handrails on both sides and a perforated metal floor made up of approximately 356 steps.
The internal LED lighting system uses low-heat emission to minimize energy consumption and preserve the cave’s delicate microclimate.
